GRIN ANDREY A.

MD, DMSc, Professor, Head of the Division of Emergency Neurosurgery at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, Moscow Healthcare Department; Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurological Resuscitation at the A.I. Yevdokimov Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry, Ministry of Health of Russia; Chief Neurosurgeon of the Moscow Healthcare Department, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Neurosurgery journal.

Dr. Grin’s research activity focuses on traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and associated injuries. His MD thesis was dedicated to the development of a treatment tactics for patients with low-volume
intracranial meningeal hematomas. He developed a new concept of conservative therapy and treatment strategies for these patients. His DMSc thesis was dedicated to surgical treatment of patients with multisystem injury of the spine and spinal cord. Special consideration was given to the implementation of minimally invasive technologies in spinal surgery. Dr. Grin has coauthored 313 research articles dedicated to treatment of patients with spinal disorders, spinal injuries, and traumatic brain injuries. His publications also cover the issues related to the organization of neurosurgical services in Russia (h-index 7).

Dr. Grin was the first doctor in Russia who implemented endoscopic surgeries on the spinal cord, performed a number of complicated surgeries in patients with multisystem injuries and multilevel and multiple spinal fractures. He has implemented surgeries for spinal injuries and degenerative disorders, new fixation systems, latest surgical techniques in the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, hospitals in Moscow and other Russian cities. He regularly conducts master classes for neurosurgeons, where he teaches novel surgical techniques. Three theses were successfully defended under his supervision. He is a member of the Moscow Society of Neurosurgeons and board member of the Association of Russian Neurosurgeons.

Dr. Grin has received an award for the best Russian doctors ‘True Purpose’ for ‘Performing a unique surgery which saved a patient’s life’ (2007). As a member of a group of authors, he became a Laurate of the Award of the: Russian Government Award for Science and Technology.
